Pray for the People of the Richtersveld
27 June - 1 July 2022 (Friday)Venue: Kuboes, Lekkersing, Eksteenfontein
A bit of background...
Eksteenfontein is home to among other ethnic groups, the Bosluisbasters. They are referred to ass a group of people who were viewed as Whites but classified as Coloreds. They have been residents of the Richtersveld since 1949. Their journey started out on the farms in Namakwaland in the early 1900 century and ended 50 years later in the Richtersveld in an area that was set aside for their use.
The Richtersveld is one of the most inhospitable places in South Africa for humans but is declared a World Heritage Site due to its unique fauna and flora and cultural heritage. Residents of the Richtersveld are confined to their isolated communities that can only be reached by dirt road. People are poor and opportunities for employment almost nonexistent. They are dependent on state grants for their survival or the income from relatives working elsewhere. Tourism as a result of the RICHTERSVELD COMMUNITY CONSERVANCY does provide limited employment opportunities and opportunities for development.
The aim of this prayer initiative is to create an awareness of the people of the Richtersveld and to pray for them that God will send revival to this dry corner of Southern Africa that will bring spiritual and social transformation to these communities.
The people that are living here are predominantly Christian with a Christian heritage stretching back hundreds of years. Churches are well established in all these communities but due to their geographical isolation lacks the resources so freely available to churches in bigger centers towns and cities around South Africa. Nevertheless, Churches in these communities are well-positioned to usher in the presence of God in a far bigger way than ever before.
This is a developing prayer initiative and guidelines for prayer will be gradually added here.
